Hello friends,

I’m back yet again with another review of a lovely children’s book. This book added a few more laughter lines to my face and I found myself laughing aloud an embarrassing number of times. Not only will this be greatly entertaining for children, as an adult it was hilarious too! I read this book on the 1st August 2014 but unfortunately I was unable to publish this review until September in accordance with the publisher. I hope that you enjoy my review and perhaps even read this lovely story for yourself.

I received a free copy of ‘Bird & Squirrel on Ice’ by the publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a delightful, heartwarming graphic novel which tells the tale of Bird and Squirrel when after flying, crash land in the South Pole. From here Bird is revered as the Chosen One who will defeat the penguin’s menace, the whale. The penguins, keen to protect themselves have found themselves forced into an agreement with their aggressor. In order to prevent the whale from eating them, they are forced to give the whale their fish in order to protect themselves. Bird is believed to be the Chosen One who will end their suffering and force their aggressor to leave. Is Bird really the Chosen One? You’re just going to have to read it to find out. With a heartwarming ending to a marvellous story, this is one children’s book which as an adult you’ll still find yourself laughing aloud at.

Burks has created some wonderful characters who’s plight really becomes your own. The artwork in this story is really noteworthy and it’s detail adds greater depth to the story. The story is lovely and the artwork really brings this story to life. It’s greatly humorous and entertaining, no matter what your age. This would be a fantastic book to share with younger ones and has a great moral ending. The characters adventure is remarkable and one certainly worth sharing. The key themes of friendship, helping one another and loyalty are clearly portrayed in this story making it one of my favourite graphic novels of the year so far.
