Hi there friends,
I’ve just finished reading this lovely short children’s book which would be great for use by both teachers and parents when talking about culture, friendships and attitudes towards others. Here’s what I thought about the book…
I received a free copy of this book by the book’s publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
When Madison and her mother are selling chocolates door to door to raise money for her school, Madison encounters something she does not know about. Seema, a girl from her school is often somewhat shunned on the school bus and as a result Madison avoids contact with her. In reality, coming from a different culture might not be so strange after all…
This is a gorgeous picture book which has some brilliant illustrations and a wonderful moral! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and would be overjoyed to share this with younger pupils in schools. It would be a great stimulus for discussion in PSHE about different cultures, bullying and friendship. There is a lot for children to gain from reading this book and further questioning can help children to develop their own ideas and examine how they treat others and how we should treat one another.
At the end of the book, there is a gorgeous note for parents which ten top tips for raising moral children. I think these tips apply not only for raising children but for being good, compassionate people throughout life. A brilliant book for allowing children to develop life skills, morality and kindness.
