Book Review: Five Minutes, Alfie by Lily Mae Walters

Five Minutes, Alfie

Alfie snuggles down in bed,
dreams still in his little head.

He dreams he’s a king going out for a ride.
“A dragon sleeps in front of the gate,” they cried.

How will they succeed in waking him up?
By helping each other and lots of luck.

This is a beautifully bright illustrated book, which is sure to delight any child who chooses to read it. The story is told in rhyming prose and the illustrations compliment the story perfectly.

Alfie wants to spend his time dreaming that he is a king. A brave, bold and fearless king who can solve a problem that nobody else can. The humungous green dragon sleeps in front of the gate and nobody can wake the dragon. People from far and wide have tried and tested all manner of ideas to wake the dragon but hadn’t succeeded. But fearless Alfie has a polite plan that he is sure will succeed.

I love the message in the story that sometimes not all is as it seems and your first idea may not be the best. Sometimes we all need to take a different approach to solve a problem!

A perfect bedtime read with a lovely message too.
