#BookReview: Up Close and Personal by Kathryn Freeman

Up Close and Personal

British actor Zac Edwards is the latest heartthrob to hit the red carpets. Hot, talented and rich, he sends women wild…all except one.

Close protection officer Kat Parker hasn’t got time to play celebrity games.  She has one job: to protect Zac from the stalker that seems to be dogging his every move.

Zac might get her hot under her very starched collar, but Kat’s a professional – and sleeping with Zac is no way part of her remit…

This book has such a strong start, it pulls you straight into the action and doesn’t waste any time in bringing you in. The characters are brilliant, complete polar opposites who are thrown into one another’s lives champagne first. After Kat accidentally throws champagne all over her new client, Zac. She’s Zac’s new bodyguard and definitely made a strong first impression.

I loved the role reversal in this story, bodyguards are so often seen as being stereotypically male and this was a refreshing change. I love a confident female in a stereotypically male role! Kat has such an amazing back story and I was desperate to find out more about her and what made her who she is.

The characters were great and had lots of depth. They were both vulnerable and needed each other to help one another grow but towards the end of the book it just felt a little like Zac’s backstory was thrown in for effect.

This was definitely a tale of two halves. I loved the first half of the book but felt like everything after was too quick, neat and rushed. I thoroughly enjoyed the main characters but felt like the main threat that we were meant to be be focussed on during the story was all too simple to eliminate. This is probably just personal preference and I could see others really enjoying this.

Author Bio –

A former pharmacist, I’m now a medical writer who also writes romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a hunky hero.

I’ve two sons and a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to buy a card (yes, he does), so any romance is all in my head. Then again, his unstinting support of my career change proves love isn’t always about hearts and flowers – and heroes come in many disguises.
